About Me

Hello, I’m Bill Peschel. The last name rhymes with special.

Bill Peschel, authorNo, my mother never told me that. I had to earn my specialness.

I write things. Books, mostly, but I’ve written reviews, features, hard news, soft news, press releases, ad copy and Tweets. I have worked in journalism for several decades and thanks to the continuing success in the newspaper industry, I’m working on publishing more books.

Currently, I’m taking public domain works of lasting interest and adding 40,000 words of annotations, essays, timelines and other interesting bits and publishing them. I did that in 2010 with Dorothy L. Sayers’ first novel, “The Complete, Annotated Whose Body?” (I am a longtime fan of her works) and moved on to Agatha Christie’s “The Complete, Annotated Mysterious Affair at Styles.” Her second book, “The Complete, Annotated Secret Adversary,” was published in 2013.

If you’re doing a feature story on me, here’s some biographical information about me. If you need bigger author and book cover photos, try here.

Bill Peschel was born in 1960 in Ohio and grew up there and in North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in journalism. For The Avalon Hill Game Company in Baltimore, he published “Heroes,” a magazine for fantasy role-players and developed computer games. He spent several years thereafter as a shipping clerk, bread truck driver, paste-up artist and budding novelist before returning to journalism as a book reviewer, copy editor and page designer, earning a share of a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting with The Harrisburg Patriot-News. He was released from the newspaper when it when to a three-days-a-week publishing schedule.

He lives in Hershey, Pa., where the air really does smell like chocolate.

As of early 2013, Bill is working on “The Complete Annotated Mysterious Affair at Styles” by Agatha Christie.
