Tenacious D makes anything sound epic, even the Star Trek theme

Posted by on March 1, 2013

A couple months back — all right, it was in April of last year — Tenacious D appeared on the Nerdist podcast to promote their comeback album Rize Of The Fenix (the video for the title song, in which all kinds of cheap special effects are destroyed, is pretty funny).

nerdist-tenacious-dIt’s a great interview. Jack Black and his partner played some songs and talked about their career. And at the very end, because it wouldn’t be a nerdy podcast, they performed the original theme from “Star Trek,” with the lyrics.

So, here’s the snippet from the Nerdist podcast containing the song. (And, yes, as Jack Black says, Gene Roddenberry wrote the lyrics to screw composer Alexander Courage out of half the royalties.)

For those of you wanting to sing along, here are the lyrics:

Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand’ring in star-flight
I know
He’ll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me
